Not about electrics, but worth posting to help home 6 rescued kittens
We've just prevented our neighbour from
dispatching the six kittens that his cat had last weekend. This cat has
had 2-3 litters per year for the past 3 years, despite our constant
nagging to get her sterilised. Often the more ordinary ones have been
culled and the pretty ones given away, though we've only found out about
the culling after the event.
The
mother has had most of the litters in our house (including this recent
one) and is pretty much our cat as she is not allowed in the neighbours
house when they are out, or overnight (we feed her most days). She's
really just a plaything for the neighbour's smaller child, who is only
there every other week....
We're
not in a position to take on more cats ourselves, having five already,
so are looking for homes well in advance of the time that they can leave
their mother. The litter consists of 5 black (some with white lower
tums) and 1 black and white. Early signs are that there are 3 males and
3 females, but I will update on that.
I
believe that cats are best taken on as pairs (or more) so we are really
only looking for three homes or less. Please email if you have any
questions.

Analogue TV - an important update
For anyone struggling to come to terms with
using an anlaogue TV set here in France it's worth noting that all
analogue TV transmitters in France will be swtiched off by/on November
30th 2011 as digital TV has now been introduced. There is a phased
analogue shut-down starting this year. In other words, worrying about
obtaining a compatible analogue set is getting a bit uneccessary.
However, you do need to make sure that any digital option that you
obtain is compliant with the French digital TV service.
There's information about possible TNT pit-falls in the article "Will my old TV work in France?" in the "TV - terrestrial" section, written in January 2008.

On being in France
I just couldn't resist a non-electrical posting for once.
Today I was working relatively close to home, so was able to nip back for lunch. In the course a that short journey I was lucky enough to spot two swans, a kestrel, our usual neighbourhood buzzard lurking on his favourite telegraph pole, & the entire countryside looking very green & lovely after recent hard rain. Oh, there was the normal collection of cows, sheep, chickens & horses en route as well.
I just thought that I'd try & do something to relieve the gloom that currently seems to be creeping into the news.
